Choose Your Focus Keyword
Begin by choosing a keyword for your blog post. You want to pick one keyword per blog post. Avoid cramming all your target keywords in one post. This will not yield effective results.
Optimise the Important Aspects of Your Post
The Yoast SEO plugin will check your blog to determine whether the keyword has been used in the right places and it will also measure several other aspects of your content. These are the important aspects you should optimise:
- Title
- Heading
- Subheading
- Meta description
- URL
- Content
- Image ALT tag
Ensure your keyword is present in each of the above elements.
The Yoast plugin will analyse your content and show how many times your keyword has been used in the content. Ideally, use your keyword no more than 2% of the blog’s word count. So if you have written a 400 word blog post, use it no more than 8. Avoid over optimising, as this is a huge sign of spam or thin content.
Be sure to include your keyword in at least one subheading. If you don’t have the habit of writing subheadings, think of doing it going forward. Subheadings help break down your post and enhance readability.
